Mychal Parker
A lot of people nationally took notice when a high-profile coach like John Calipari took the wheel behind a high-end program like Kentucky.

Not Charlottesville (Va.) Miller School small forward Mychal Parker--he says he's been following Calipari for years.

"I know Coach Cal is a really good coach," Parker said. "I've been following him and I'm pretty familiar with him."

Thursday Parker will drive down from Virginia to take an unofficial visit to Lexington to take a closer look.

A 6-foot-6 slashing forward, Parker likes how Calipari's teams have played in the past and feels like his game would fit right in with Cal's wide-open style.

"I definitely like how he plays," Parker said. "I'm a good slasher," Parker said. "I attack the basket really hard. I'm really good on the perimeter and I don't try to force things."

Some had suggested that Maryland and Miami may be the leaders for Parker's services, but he said that may be a bit premature.

"It's too early to say," Parker said. "Things might change. There's no particular order."

Parker currently holds scholarship offers from Clemson, Florida, Maryland, Miami, Virginia and East Carolina and is hoping his trip to Lexington produces another one.

"I don't know, I hope so," Parker said. "(If not), they'll probably get a chance to see me more in July. If they do, they'll definitely be top five. Definitely."

Parker said he is likely going to wait until next spring to make a decision.

Scouts, Inc. Evaluation

May, 2009: Parker has all the intangibles to be an outstanding wing at the next level. His frame is outstanding with nice length and he has broad shoulders to carry weight as well. His skills level is quite good, but he has a tendency to play in spurts. He gets most of his points-at least at the Pangos All-American Camp-driving to the basket. He's an allusive scorer who is more finesses than power. He can knock down the 3-point shot and he gets solid lift on it, but it needs to get more consistent. He finishes well in transition and can get up for the big dunk. Defensively, he needs to show a greater urgency to bend his knees and become a lock-down defender because his effort at that particular end wasn't strong. Parker is a high-major talent, but he needs to become more aggressive at both ends and continue to polish his skills to reach his potential.
